She studied art in Boston, Philadelphia, and New York at the Art Students League. The artistic fame of Wills rests on the prodigious number of scientific renderings of wildflowers, particularly of Texas, that she painted. The University of Texas Press published a book titled, <I>Roadside Flowers of Texas,</B></I> in which 257 of her botanical paintings were reproduced. The Witte Museum has a large collection of her work and she is prominently included in the book, <I>Art for History's Sake: The Texas Collection of the Witte Museum.</B></I><BR><BR>The two Mary Motz Wills paintings in this auction came from the Philadelphia area and may have been painted while she was taking classes there.<B>Condition Report:</B> Good original condition. Minor losses to an approximately three-square inch area to the left of the vase.
