MARTIALLY MARKED COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER
MARTIALLY MARKED COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. Early Ainsworth inspected single action that falls within the range of other known revolvers issued to the 8th Cavalry. Other revolvers within this general serial range were reported as being stolen in 1876. It has its original 7-1/2” bbl with “U.S.” on the left side of the frame, the small “A” inspector marks in all the proper places with bulls-eye ejector rod head and 1-pc walnut grips. Accompanied by a John Kopec letter authenticating this revolver. SN 9721. CONDITION: About good, all matching. Little original finish remains, being mostly a mottled silver/brown patina with plum-colored ejector rod housing and most of the original dark blue on the back of the hammer with the top of the hammer turned plum. The markings are all clear with fine pitting on the frame in front of the cylinder and the end of the ejector rod housing. Grips have a chipped toe and show heavy wear with some shrinkage. The cylinder pin screw is a replacement. Strong bright bore with fine pitting. Good mechanics. 4-49158 JR257
