Born and raised on her family's cattle ranch in northwest Montana, Marla began
painting full-time following formal art training and work in commercial advertising
and design in MT and AZ. Moving to Hawaii, she managed a gallery and taught
on-location watercolor classes at Kona before pursuing oil painting at the Scottsdale
Artists' School. Returning to Montana, she finds inspiration in the state's scenic
beauty and colorful history where she is noted for her oil paintings of traditional
landscapes, historical architecture in landscape, and classical still-lifes. She has given
several one-woman gallery shows in major art centers from Scottsdale to Carmel
and has participated in special exhibitions by invitation including the C.M. Russell
Museum, the John Clymer Museum, and the Montana Governor's Mansion. She is
a four-time C.M. Russell Art Auction Quick-Draw participant and Artists' Choice
Award Winner. Montana galleries representing her work includes Bjorge's Gallery in
Bigfork and Tierney Fine Art in Bozeman.
