MARK W. CLARK
(1896-1984) Four-star general in the US Army, served in WWI, WWII, and the Korean War. Clark commanded the United States Fifth Army during WWII leading captured Rome in June 1944, around the same time as the Normandy landings. Typed letter signed, on 'The Citadel' letterhead, 15 August, 1979, Clark writes: 'When I signed the Armistice in Korea...it was the first time the United States had withdrawn from any battlefield without victory. I felt we should have won in Korea, and had we done so, probably there never would have been a Vietnam...' Signed in blue ink, 8.5 x 11 inches. Usual mailing folds.
