MAN EMANCIPATES HIS SLAVES AND LEAVES THEM HIS ESTATE
Fascinating last will and testament of Stephen Goggin, 2pp. legal folio, Madison Co., Kentucky, Mar. 24, 1841 in which the rather bitter writer cuts out all family members except his wife and a female relative, emancipates four slaves, and leaves his estate to them slaves after the decease of the former heirs. In part: "...I also bequeath to my Slaves namely Bill Charles John and Mary their freedom at our Deaths and that they shall have all the ballance of my estate property of every description none excepted to have and to hold so long as they may live then to dispose of as they see fit...but are bound not to convey to any of my Brothers or Sisters or any of their Children...I wish the Black Boy Bill to have the control and managment of the estate and in case of his death, Charles...". Folds else very good.

Estimate: $600 - 700.
