MALLARMÉ, Stéphane.- Poésies. [Illustrations de Berthe Morisot. Préface de Paul Valéry]. ( Paris), Les Cent une, 1931. In-4° (pâles rousseurs sur qqs ff. épars). En ff., sous couv. en parchemin, chemise et étui illustré d'éd. (lég; salissures).
11 compositions : 6 dessins originaux interprétés à la pointe sèche par Galanis et tirés sur hollande dont le frontispice en bistre,- et 5 pointes sèches "composées pour l'auteur par Berthe Morisot" (tirées sur japon). La peintre Berthe Morisot (1841-1895) était l'arrière petite-nièce de Fragonard et l'épouse d'Eugène Manet, frère du peintre et ami de Mallarmé, futur tuteur de sa fille après la mort de son mari en 1892. Elle exposa à divers salons, fut l'amie de Renoir, Degas, Cézanne... Valéry épousa une de ses nièces et son beau-frère la peignit dans sa célèbre toile "Le balcon".
Tirage limité à 101 exemplaires sur vélin de hollande filigrané au nom de la société et réservés à ses membres (n° CI pour Mme Willard).
Ex. enrichi d'une suite des 6 pointes sèches tirées sur japon.
"Les Cent une est la première société de femmes bibliophiles, fondée en 1926 et composée exclusivement de femmes mais dont les choix d'auteurs et d'illustrateurs n'étaient pas limitatif quant au sexe, contrairement à la Société des "Cent femmes amies du Livre" [fondée également en 1926]. Rivalisant au départ avec la société masculine des "Cent bibliophiles", ne fût-ce que par le nombre de ses adhérentes, elle se distingue par l'édition d'auteurs modernes, les classiques et les ouvrages curieux n'occupant qu'un tiers de sa production. Parmi ses administratrices et membres se distinguent la princesse Schakhowsky qui avait ses entrées chez Gallimard, les baronnes de Brimont (arrière-petite nièce de Lamartine), la comtesse de Noailles, Mmes Paul Claudel, Paul Morand, André Maurois, Charles Peignot. After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 100 (EUR) will be send by registered post.
Payment Details:
Payment will be made in Belgian Francs. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 200 (EUR) or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Ero's (EUR)
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 1250 EUR
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
