Note: A E Gray, formerly a china decorator and pottery salesman founded the factory which bears his name in 1912. By 1920 the company was beginning to produce the type of brightly hand painted Art Deco influenced ceramic ware which was to be so redolent of the period. Among the designers who worked for the pottery were Gordon Forsyth, John Guildford and Nancy Catford. Susie Cooper (who initially worked with Gordon Forsyth on the Gloria Lustre range) worked for Gray from 1922 until 1929 when she established her own company.
