Logan/ Maj Genl</B></I>" signed on a 3.75" x 2. 5" sheet, in ink. Logan was a distinguished Union general in the Civil War, receiving the Medal of Honor for action at Vicksburg. He later served as a Senator from Illinois and, in that capacity, was the main proponent behind creation of the Memorial Day holiday. Also in this lot is a hand written letter from Mrs. John A. Logan. Dated Jan. 10th, 1901. <I>“My Dear Mr. Bryant, the engraving you enclosed is very good is the one used in Gen. Logan’s book “The Great Consperacy”</B></I> sic <I>I also enclose an engraving of my son which we consider very fine and I should be glad if father & son could appear together as an object lesson in patriotism and to show the tirade on the sons of great men is outrageous and unworthy of American.
