A nice group of 9 Eastern Zhou ceramic beads with varying but similar "magic eyes" in compatible subdued colors. In the vicinity of 1/2" size, several different makers or kilns are represented here (though close in general kind). Faience is the name given their manufactured type, and they were believed to have magic protective properties for the wearer - especially against the "evil eye". The lot as purchased, and the number "9" was the most auspicious number in ancient times, so it would have been desirable to include that number of anything in a tomb. Generally nice condition, all well-cleaned by the superstitious Chinese, and none have been repaired. A nice & scarce grouping.
