(1851 - 1944) Prominent frontier lawman who witnessed Cody's scalping of Yellow Hand, with Heck Thomas he was a captor of members of the Dalton Gang, killers Kid Lewis and Foster Crawford, and train robber Henry Silva. Madsen also rode with Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders in Cuba. Rare T.L.S. ""C. Madsen"" as Chief Deputy on Office of United States Marshal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Guthrie, OK, July 30, 1906, to Deputy U.S. Marshal L. P. GOSNEY, asking for his personal information, adding: ""...It is necessary that I know this in making my report to the Attorney General..."". Boldly signed, with a A.D.S. by Gosney beneath, reading in full: ""U.S.M. officer Anadaico OK, 8/2nd 1904 in answer to the above will say by Age is 52 years old ocupation [sic] by trade is Carpenter & Steam Engineer last ocupation [sic] as Clerk. Yours Respt. L. P. Gosney Debt [sic] USM"". Slight offsetting at bottom and left margins, otherwise very good.
