MACARTHUR, DOUGLAS
(1880 - 1964) American general and Allied Supreme Commander in the Pacific in World War II, accepted the surrender of Japan and was later dismissed by Truman for advocating an invasion of China. A fine MacArthur piece, the cover of a 4to. program for "The Circumnavigators Award of Merit for 1961" held at the Essex House, New York, May, 24, 1962, featuring an imposing b/w bust portrait of the general, signed to the left of his image along with the signatures of Cardinal FRANCIS SPELLMAN and journalist LOWELL THOMAS. Matted and framed with a copy of MacArthur's message to the meeting. Light mat burn at extreme edges, otherwise very good condition. Unexamined out of frame.
