1875-This open face pocket watch is a 10 size American Watch Company timepiece in a gold case. The dial is single-sunk white enamel with pronounced crazing. The hour chapter is marked in black roman numerals, and the seconds dial is marked in black arabic numerals in 10 second intervals. The face is inscribed "American Watch Co." and the hands are blued spades. There`s one small chip in the crystal. Stem wind, lever set. The reverse of the case is turned and pressed with a decorative floral motif. The interior of the case is marked "A.W.Co./ 80377/ 14k" and the cuvet also bears "14k/ 80377". The gold plated, 3/4 plate movement is engraved "Eogg`s Safety Pinion Pat./ 837253/ Riverside/ Amer`n Watch Co. Waltham Mass." An engraving below the 3/4 plate reads "Woerd`s Patents". The movement is 11 jewels. The serial number dates this watch to 1875, and the company only produced a run of 300 watches of this type. This watch still keeps good time, and includes a 13" long 14k gold chain with a large clasp on one end. A very fine early watch from the predecessor of the American Waltham Watch Company. HKA#64357
