MA. Athol. Millers River Bank. $1-$2-$3. (MA-35 G2a, G4a, G6a). Proof on India paper mounted on card. Uncut sheet. At the center of the $1 note is a large red ``1'' in a large red circular frame consisting of numerous crescent shaped segments bearing the word ``ONE'' in white letters. At left, one woman reclines while the other sprinkles flowers in the air. At the center of the $2 is the word ``TWO'' in white, outlined in deep red. A train crosses a stone arched bridge, left, and a semi-nude Indian maiden holds a child. There is a small, white ``3'' in the center of the $3 note, in a circle made of geometric lathe work, and segments with the word ``THREE'' repeated, in white. A farmer and his family rests, at left.

All of these notes have a full red tint, which is a bit ragged at the edges. This indicates that more work needed to be done on the plate, and we are looking at a progress proof. This is exemplary engraving, practically impossible to counterfeit, and trying to ``raise'' the denominations of the notes would also be an exercise in futility. DW. Choice Uncirculated, there are raised ridges in the gutters between the notes, as made.
