Made in Soligen, Germany by Alex Coppel Company. Features a 31-1/4" slightly curved blade, 37" overall. Stamped on the left side of the ricasso "ALEX. COPPEL SOLINGEN", the basket hilt stamped "E.U.B" - translates to Estados Unidos do Brasil with cross cannons underneath, "M" stamped on the front right of scabbard and black checkered grips. Comes with its original metal scabbard with two hanger rings intact. Blade shows wear from use, age patina, some scratches, and pitting scattered throughout. Scabbard shows the same with dents on both sides. ALEX. COPPEL / SOLINGEN, around the trademark "Scales" logo, indicating manufacture by Alexander Coppel & Co. located in the legendary "City of Blades", Solingen. This company made large amounts of export bayonets during the 19th century, and also manufactured bayonets for many years and up through WWII under the name Alcoso. Sadly, as the Coppel family was Jewish, they saw their company stolen from them and "Aryanized" during WWII by the NSDAP. For more information please see J. Anthony Carter’s work GERMAN KNIFE AND SWORD MAKERS.
