M1861 RIFLE MUSKET BY UNION ARMS COMPANY.
Cal. .58. NSN. Bbl. measures approx. 40”. A rare opportunity to acquire what is likely the scarcest of all contracted arms made for the Union during the Civil War. It is possible that Edward Robinson, the principle of the Union Arms Company, never delivered a rifle musket under his initial contract marked by the Union Arms Company to the government that was accepted for service. He did manufacture a few guns that were sold to the State of New York. Robinson eventually would deliver more than 30,000 rifle muskets under other US contracts to the government. It is likely that some of his earliest production utilized Union Arms Company marked locks making this one of the most desirable of all Civil War M1861 rifle muskets. The bright finished bbl. is stamped on the left flat, “V” over “P” & is dated at the top, “186_”. The bright finished lock is dated “1863” behind the hammer. In front of the hammer, there is an American eagle over “U.S.” & “U.A.CO. NEW YORK”. Bright finished iron trigger guard, buttplate, bbl. bands, sling swivels & ramrod. Dark wooden stock. CONDITION: all metal has a light gray finish. Lock holds both full & half cock. Stock has scattered dents & dings but no major issues. Good bore w/ strong rifling. (01-18779/BF). ANTIQUE. $2,000-2,600.
