U.S. Model 1797 Pennsylvania Commonwealth Flintlock Musket, by Jacob Lether, .69 cal., 44'' barrel, detachable iron flash pan, full-length Charleville style walnut stock retained with three iron bands. Lockplate marked ''Lether/& Co./CP'' (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania). Barrel is similarly marked near breech ''CP'' with ''(Liberty cap)/P'' in oval. Buttonhead ramrod is present. Examples by Lether are considered quite scarce with only approx. 1200 mfg'd over 21 decades ago, and all styled directly after the French 1763 Charleville pattern. Condition is very good with thinning to brown finish on iron parts. Stock with horizontal fracture emanating from lock and sideplate and terminating at comb.. Action is good and functioning, bore has moderately toned. Est.: $3,500-$5,000. (Antique)
