Lyndon Johnson Typed Letter Signed
Lyndon B. Johnson Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 10.5", U.S. Senate letterhead, June 23, 1959, Washington, D.C., to Reverend Luther C. Peak, Wichita Falls, Texas. It reads in full: "My dear Friend: I apologize for not answering you sooner, but I wanted to wait until I had a copy of the CONGRESSIONAL RECORD, in which I inserted the newspaper account of your impressions of your trip to the Soviet Union. It appeared in yesterday's RECORD, and I am pleased to enclose an original and a duplicate. I think it will make good reading for members of congress, and I am grateful to you for your thoughtfulness in sending the article to me. I appreciate your generous comments about me. I don't deserve them, but the confidence you have in me is a great comfort to me. I only want to serve as Senator from Texas, but being a good Senator is a much easier task when I have friends like you pulling for me back home. Warm regards and best wishes, Sincerely". Folds as expected, light browning, fine condition with a large, bold signature. Included is the Congressional Record excerpt mentioned in Johnson's letter.
