Lyndon Johnson Presentation Cup
A sterling silver mint julep cup engraved with the following: “Happy Birthday to C.R. A good friend for work or play. Lady Bird & Lyndon Johnson.” Marked on the bottom with a presidential mark—an eagle with LBJ inscribed below. Manufactured by Mark J. Scearce, Shelbyville, Kentucky. The cup weighs 6.2 oz., is 3. ¾” tall and about 3” in diameter. Each in the series of presidential mint julep cups is marked with the initials of the currently sitting president, which helps to date them. They are inspired by and modeled after the original such cups made about 1795, complete with hand beading at top and bottom. They are still being made today by the Wakefield-Scearce Galleries. This one is particularly special because of its known provenance and personalized inscription. From the American Industrialist Collection.
