Extremely rare signed White House card, nicely signed in bold blue fountain pen, “Lyndon B. Johnson.” Accompanied by the original unaddressed White House transmittal envelope. In clean and very fine condition.
This signed White House card is illustrated on page 568 of Charles Hamilton’s 1983 authoritative publication, American Autographs, captioned “White House card signed as President.” This was purportedly the only genuine LBJ signed White House card the famed autograph expert had ever seen. The card here offered is also illustrated on page 158 of From the President’s Pen, published in 1991 by Larry F. Vrazlik and Michael Minor and captioned “Extremely rare authentic signature on a White House card.” In their chapter titled “Lyndon B. Johnson: The Surprising Modern Presidential ‘Button Gwinett’” the authors identified this very example as, to their knowledge, the only authentic example known to exist.
