Superb TLS, one page, 6.25 x 8.5, personal letterhead, January 28, 1969. Letter to former NASA administrator James Webb, in full: "Of all the good things that have been said about me in my time, none stands higher in my mind than your essay on our space accomplishments in the book presented to me in New York. It was a wonderful gesture—particularly since it came from Mr. Space himself. For I know—and I have tried to let the world know—that the success of America's space program reflects the masterful guidance of Jim Webb." Johnson adds a brief postscript in his own hand: "See you at University of Texas next year—L." In fine condition, with a couple extra horizontal folds. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Webb oversaw NASA from the beginning of the Kennedy administration through the end of the Johnson administration, consequently overseeing all the first manned launches in the Mercury through Gemini programs before departing NASA in October 1968, just before the first manned flight in the Apollo program. In 1969, Webb was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Johnson.
