TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, January 17, 1951. Letter to Walter Winchell. In part: “I confirmed with the officials here that the SS Nestos was destined for Calcutta -- not Canton. It contained commodities purchased by the Indian Supply Mission on Washington, and as far as I can learn, the cargo couldn’t possibly get into Communist hands.” At the top in pencil, Winchell pencils his response, “Dear Senator, Thanks very much again. Happy New Year.” In fine condition, with horizontal fold affecting bottom portions of a few letters of signature, staple hole to top left, and a couple stray pencil lines.
