One page signed "Lyndon Johnson" as Senate Democratic Leader, 6 7/8" x 6"; June 25, 1955.

A letter addressed to Mr. Paul C. Smith, President of the Crowell Collier Publishing Company. Johnson thanks Mr. Smith for sending a copy of the July 8, 1955 issue of Collier's Magazine and notes it as "one of the finest I have seen".

Lyndon Johnson suffered a near-fatal heart attack a week later, on July 2 1955. Included in this grouping is a carbon copy of a get-well letter from Paul C. Smith dated July 8, 1955.

One page signed "Lady Bird Johnson" on Senate Democratic Leader stationary, 6 7/8" x 6"; July 15, 1955.

She writes, in part:

"You would have been very pleased had you seen Lyndon's reaction to your letter. It brought a smile to his face and I know it meant much to hear from you... I will always believe that it was the good wishes and prayers of such friends as you that brought him through the trying hours of his illness."
