Lustrous authentic fine quality vintage Shirvan Rug. 100% natural hand woven, vegetable dye, finest and softest baby lamb's wool pile on cotton foundation. This is an absolutely beautiful mid-20th century Shirvan floral design on a heartwarming red color in mint condition. It is very rare to come across Shirvan of floral design in the marketplace, for the Turkish knots does not allow floral pattern, unless the piece is so finely woven that enables the weaver to do so. This piece is adorned with a charming collection of birds and animals with a fairly lush pile. The art of carpet weaving in the Karabak, Shirvan territory is undoubtedly influenced by a number of objective factors, among them the geographical location of this region, at the joint of the east and the west. Here, along the greater Caucasus ridge, lies the borderline between Asia and Europe. Here is the historical juxtaposition point between Islamic and Christian cultures. Many long caravans passed through this territory over the centuries up until the middle of 20th century. Charming and happy colors are one of the characteristic of Shirvan Rugs.
