Vintage glossy 10 x 8 contact print photograph of mankind's first image of the Earth from the distance of the moon, as taken by the Lunar Orbiter 1 spacecraft on August 23, 1966. In fine condition. Designed primarily to photograph smooth areas of the lunar surface for selection and verification of safe landing sites for the Surveyor and Apollo missions, the Lunar Orbiter 1 robotic spacecraft was the first American spacecraft to orbit the Moon. This photo was taken from a vantage point of 730 miles above the far side of the moon.
