Italian composer (1760–1842) known for his operas and sacred music; Beethoven regarded him as the greatest of his contemporaries. ALS in French, signed “L. Cherubini,” one page, 5 x 7.75, no date but circa January 1817. Letter to le Baron de Glandeves, the governor of the Palais des Tuileries, concerning arrangements for a rehearsal at St. Denis. In part (translated): “I have already had the honor to ask for the Galleries of the Chapelle to rehearse there the music scheduled to be performed on the 21st of this month at St. Denis. You had the goodness to grant my request, Mr. le Baron, but at the same time you obliged me to let you know the day…it will be next Friday, 18 January, at noon. It only remains for me to beg you, Monsieur le Baron, to have the kindness to confirm the permission you have given me by giving the order that the Gallery be put at my disposal on the specified day.” Some mild haloing and erosion to ink, uniform toning, and unobtrusive paper loss to edges, otherwise fine condition.
