(Louisiana Purchase) Government document, "Acts...First Session...Eighth Congress...1803", 225pp, plus table of contents, 5 1/2"X9", wonderful content detailing the Lousiana Purchase by the United States from Napoleon Bonaparte. Contains numerous Acts of Congress, signed in print by Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, etc. Includes, among other things, the entire purchase agreement in English and French; as well as Indian treaties dealing with the transfer. A very brief sampling of text, "...the President [Thomas Jeferson] of the United States...is hereby authorised to take possession of, and occupy the territory ceded by France...he may...employ any part of the army or navy...as may be necessary...for maintaining and protecting the inhabitants of Louisiana in the free enjoyment of their liberty, property and religion...the secretary of the treasury...is hereby authorised, to cause to be constituted, certificates of stock...in favor of the French Republic...for the sum of eleven millions two hundred and fifty thousand dollars..." First part of document has some foxing, o/w VG. Totally intact.
