Princess of France (1476–1531) and mother of King Francis I, she played an important political role, serving twice as the Regent of France in the early 16th century. Rare LS in French, signed “Louise,” one page, 8 x 8.25, April 26th [1523], countersigned by Philibert Babou, the kingdom’s treasurer, whose wife became a lover of Louise’s son King Francis I, for whom he built a famous castle. Letter to the first president of Parliament Jean de Selve, (translated): “I have given the sire of Vilene, who will hand you this letter, important instructions on how you should receive counselor La Chesnaye.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds.
