Louis le Brocquy (1916-2012), Color Aquatint, Head on Red, 1974
This color aquatint etching ‘Head on red ground - Reconstructing Head’ was made in 1974 in Ireland by Louis le Brocquy (1916-2012). The work on Arches handmade paper with the edition ‘Maeght’, watermarks on the right edge, radiates in a bright red, which turns into a brilliant orange. A re-developed head can be made out. The lighter the background, the more absolute is the re-construction.

The work is signed in pencil on the lower left margin with ‘Louis le Brocquy’ and numbered with ‘31/75’. En verso it is titled with ‘Tête reconstituée’. The color aquatint etching is in very good condition. The sheet is slightly toned on the reverse side. The sheet dimensions are 66 x 50.5 cm and the plate size is 39.5 x 39.8 cm.
