This richly detailed print features a vivid pastoral scene with a covey of partridges nestled among foliage near a wooden fence with trees and fields stretching into the distance. The illustration captures the delicate textures and vibrant natural hues typical of late 19th-century American chromolithography. Louis Prang, known as the father of the American Christmas card, was also a pioneering figure in chromolithographic printing. His firm, L. Prang & Co., became widely respected for producing high-quality prints that brought fine art into the homes of the growing middle class during the late 1800s.
