ALS in French, signed “L. Pasteur,” one page, 5.25 x 7.75, May 5, 1884. Letter to the stationmaster of the Paris-Lyon Railroad Line. In part (translated): "I should be obliged to you if you would permit the shipment to my laboratory Rue Vauquelin 14 of six parcels which are addressed to me from Milan and are destined for the International Health Fair in London. These are to be used as exhibits for my laboratory.” Show-through from mounting remnants to reverse, otherwise fine condition. During this period Pasteur was making great progress in the study of rabies, and had recently installed kennels for ‘mad dogs’ at his Rue Vauquelin laboratory. A detailed piece on Pasteur’s rabies studies and extensive laboratory appeared as a Scientific American Supplement cover story a month after he wrote this letter. Among the medical apparatus he exhibited in London were the hypodermic needles he used for his rabies experiments. Interesting scientific content that demonstrates Pasteur’s widespread international recognition at this point in his influential career.
