<brArtist Biography - Louis Fabien
1925 -

Born in l’Isle-Jourdain, France; 1925. One of the foremost figurative painters of the School of Paris and one of its most vigorous participants, Louis Fabien has developed a modern approach to pointillism.

Well-defined in design, his compositions reflect a delicate palette of yellow, pinks and blues, soft and even misty in their application. The image seems to emerge gradually, and then comes into focus of the viewer to enjoy the full impact of the subject. The play of light is very carefully reproduced and is one of the outstanding qualities of his art. Winning initial recognition in Paris in the early 1950’s for a series of works devoted to the female nude, Fabien’s approach to painting, abounding in creativity, was refreshingly new. He was soon established internationally and, not surprisingly, his fame led to the United States at Wally Findlay Galleries.

In 1951, Fabien began to show his work in the prestigious Salon d’Automne and in 1953, he was invited to exhibit in the Salon de la Jeune Peinture; at the same time, he was made one of its members. Significant recognition came his way in 1959 when he was awarded a prize at the first Paris Biennale. He was also accorded one of France’s most eagerly sought honors, a nomination for the famous Green shields Prize. From 1959, he has exhibited his work in most of the important Paris salon shows.

His works have also been exhibited in the third biennale in Tokyo and in 1964 and 1965 he served as president of the Salon de la Jeune Peinture. The salon exhibitions, one man shows and group exhibitions have brought his work to t the attention of collectors throughout Europe and the United States. Both the French State and the City of Paris have purchased his paintings.
