American painter (1864–1941) primarily of landscapes and nudes. ALS in French, signed “L. Michel,” one lightly vertically and horizontally lined page, 8.5 x 8, November 8 1897. The artist writes Mrs. Adams. In part (translated): “I am in Paris because I have family problems. My uncle is dead and I had to take care of my poor old aunt’s business. I will have to talk to you and see you. But I am staying...at my old aunt Mrs. Nicolas Michel’s house. It’s been a real trip to come with a letter not getting there before two days...How could we do this?” In very good condition, with crease and a small tear affecting his signature, chipped left edge, intersecting folds, and light toning.
