One of Napoleon's favorite Marshals (1753-1815), serving as his Chief of Staff from the start of his first Italian campaign in 1796 until his first abdication in 1814. Manuscript DS in French, one page, 7.75 x 12.5, April 29, 1805. Military order from Alessandria in northwestern Italy directing General Joseph Yves Menigault-Gaulois to report to Turin no later than May 13, 1805. At the time of this edict, Menigault-Gaulois was then stationed at Toulon, approximately 270 miles to the southwest of Turin, giving just under two weeks to report to the upper Piedmont region, where he was designated to support the 27th Division commanded by Pierre Dupont l’Etang. Signed at the conclusion by Berthier as Minister of War. In fine condition.
