Cut measures approximately 1" x 2.5" in size and has been adhered to an index card measuring approximately 2.5" x 3.5" and encapsulated. Hand-signed in pencil by Lou Gehrig (D. 1941, Yankees HOF).
Lou Gehrig played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees (1923-1939). Gehrig was an All-Star for seven consecutive years and a 6-time World Series Champion. He held the record for most consecutive games played (2,130) for 56 years until Cal Ripken Jr. surpassed this number in 1995. Gehrig ended his career with a .340 batting average, 2,721 hits, 493 home runs and 1,995 runs batted in. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939 and was the first MLB player to have his uniform number retired.
