His comics consistently sell for many times the price that others from the same time period do. Fine's work at Quality is considered his best and the covers for <B>Hit Comics</B></I> are the best of his best. While the cover to issue #5 is arguably his most famous, this cover to #17 is distinguished as his masterpiece. The minimalistic approach to the background imagery is irrelevant to the powerful clash between two determined opponents. The reward for failure is dramatically depicted at the left as the hero fights to overcome the monstrous titan before him and gain the freedom that awaits on the outside of the cave entrance. Jim Steranko said it best in his 1972 volume on the history of comics: "He (Fine) thrust the reader beyond the literal, into the realm of fantasy. His richly romantic approach established a mood at once lyrical and enigmatic, yet charged with tense, feverish energy. Fine produced apocalyptic fables, his delicate art applying superb counterpoint to tales based on crime and violence. The two anomalies balanced out. The result: a stunning and compelling work of comic art." This outstanding piece of art could comfortably hang in the finest art galleries in the world. In the realm of comic art, you would be hard pressed to locate a finer example that also has as much historical significance. This work of art has been professionally matted and framed to an overall size of 19" x 24" with an image area of 13.5" x 18.5". The title stat has been professionally restored, while the rest of the text blurbs are the hand rendered originals. <B>Estimate: $60,000-up</B> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><!--<a name="PricesRealized"></a> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td width="100%"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#79735C"> <a name="PR"> <font face="arial" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"> <b>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F6F6ED"> No Prior Data Recorded </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
