Louis Clark Brock was one of the most efficient base stealers in history and held the record for the most career steals for 12 years when fellow Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson surpassed him. In hindsight Brockís trade is considered one of the worst in Chicago Cubs history, as the underachieving Cub right fielder made a significant and immediate impact on the St. Louis Cardinals line-up, adding both speed and power. Brock helped the Cardinals emerge from eighth place to capturing the National League pennant and 1964 World Series title. Brock was the first player to hit 20 home runs and steal 50 bases in a season. Lou Brock retired with 938 stolen bases, 3,023 hits, 900 RBI and a career .293 batting average. Louis Clarke Brock was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985. St. Louis Missouri
