Lot of five Belgian Commemoratives Medals, Plaques, of the Great War, Designed Signed by G. DEVRESS. 1) Possibly struck just before the outbreak of the Great War. ADOLPHE MAX BOURGMESTRE DE BRUXELLES 1914. Be-medalled bust, semi-facing, left. To the right, a small figure of St. George. Standing on the dragon, with sword upraised. Below: 1914. To left, above the shoulder, the signature: G.DEVREESE. On the Reverse: LES VIRTUS CIVIQUES / JUSTICE, VIGILENCE, CHARITÉ. At center, a coq standing, one foot raised; behind, the scales of justice. Below, the signature, G. DEVRESS, Choice condition. 64 mm, 95.9 grams. 2) Bronze Plaque, 55 x 70 mm, 82.1 grams. Obverse depicts an old man, his left arm around a boy sitting with him on a bench at the side of a road leading off into the distance, his right arm raised and pointing down the road, On the lower right edge: À l'aube de la victoire. On the Reverse: A poem or text in script. 3) Large Bronze Uniface Plaque. Shirtless laureate bust to left, possibly the King. Above, AOUT at left, 1914 at right. Text of P. CORNEILLE at bottom 61 x 90 mm, 168.5 grams. 4) and 5) Two matching uniface bronze plaques, rounded on top, 78 x 110 mm, 285.6 grams, #4, and 317.8 grams. #5. Both depict seated women, facing left. The first, on a wooden chair, sewing, a large cabinet behind. Below: Pendant L'Absence Septembre 1914. 5) has her seated of the left side of a divan. her right arm outstretched on top. Below: "Reverie..........1915".

A buyer’s premium of twenty (20) % will be added to the hammer price of each lot and is payable by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The G.S.T. of 5 % for Canadian residents and the Q.S.T. of 9.975 % for Quebec residents ( or the H.S.T. for residents of the participating provinces) are also applicable to all successful bids as part of the purchase price.
Lots are sold to the highest bidder. In case of dispute, the decision of the auctioneer will be final. Lots should be picked up immediately after the sale. Purchasers must pay for their lots on delivery. An interest charge of two (2) % per month will be charged to buyers on all overdue accounts. Payment by cash, cheque, money-order (CAN or US currency) and credit cards Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
Payment using Paypal are possible with a 2% upcharge.
All bids are in Canadian funds. Bids in US funds will be converted at the prevailing exchange rate.
Forwarding charges, insurance and registration will be charged to the buyer. Shipment is executed at the buyer’s risk and responsibility.
Should a purchaser wish to submit an item for expertization, the auctioneer must be notified and the lot paid at the time of sale. If the lot proves to be not as described, the purchaser’s money shall be repaid in full.
Material described as having defects are not returnable on account of condition. No lots may be returned by persons who have had the opportunity to examine the material before the sale. Any returns for whatever reason must be made within thirty (30) days of receipt of lot(s). Champagne Auctions are obligated to pay all consignment lots within this amount of time.
The auctioneer reserves the right to group two (2) or more lots and also to withdraw any lot or lots from sale.
The placing of a bid shall constitute acceptance of the foregoing conditions of sale. Bids will be executed by the auctioneer. Bidding increments are at the discretion of the auctioneer.
Mail, fax, phone or online bids are entered on a first bid received basis. In the event of a tie bid, the first bid received has priority. E-mail bids are accepted only from regular customers or if a credit card number is supplied.
