A) Produced during the 1860s. Fixed sights, with "NATIONAL ARMS CO BROOKLYN. N.Y." on top of the barrel, (faint). Scroll engraving is present on the barrel and frame, with serrated hammer and trigger, and checkered walnut bird's head grips. "F 39" assembly number on the left side of the back strap and "I" on the back of the barrel.

Condition: Fair. The barrel has a smooth silver gray patina and the brass has a natural pleasant aged patina. The barrel release button has been replaced. The crudely recheckered grips are fair with a chip on the upper right panel, wear on the high edges and a few scattered minor dings and dents. The engraving is crisp. The action is fine.

B) Manufactured from 1870 to 1890 with total production of about 9,000. The Second Model is identifiable by the checkered varnished walnut grips. The barrel has a half-moon front sight. The frame is decorated with simple scroll engraving on both sides, at the breech and behind the hammer. The top of the barrel is marked: "+COLT'S PT.F.A. MFG.Co / HARTFORD CT.U.S.A NO 2+". The serial number, "9180" is located on the butt and on the underside of the barrel. There is a small letter "C" on the bottom of the frame directly ahead of the trigger.

Condition: Good. The Derringer has been cleaned and the metal has since developed a smooth silver gray patina. The revarnished grips are good with a few minor dings and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
