A) John A. Nichols Side by Side Damascus 10 Gauge Hammer Shotgun. Bead front sight on a solid rib marked "JOHN A. NICHOLS MAKER AND PATENTEE SYRACUSE N.Y." with Damascus barrels numbered to the gun, checkered barrel release, and an extractor. The water table has the E Grade marking but the lock plates have the dog scene engraving found on D grade shotguns. Both lock plates are marked "JOHN A. NICHOLS". Nicely figured checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with grip cap, buttstock initial oval, and flat iron buttplate. LOP 14".

Condition: Very good. The barrel retains much of the Damascus pattern with a smooth gray patina with some scattered minor pitting. The remaining metal surfaces have a mottled gray patina. The lightly sanded, reoiled wood is fine with some very scattered minor handling marks. The checkering is crisp. Mechanically fine.

B) Single bead sight on a solid rib marked "CHARLES DALY LAMINATED STEEL". Scroll engraved hammer, lock plates, fences, break lever, and trigger guard with the "CHARLES DALY" marked lock plates featuring game bird scenes. Nicely figured checkered walnut round knob pistol grip stock and forearm with buttstock initial oval, horn buttplate and forearm insert. LOP 14".

Condition: Good. The barrels retain 60% of the Damascus pattern with a smooth brown-gray patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a mottled brown-gray patina. There is some very scattered minor pitting (mostly near the breech and at the muzzles). The lightly sanded, reoiled wood is fine with exception of a hairline crack in the grip area and a repaired small chip near the upper tang along with some very scattered minor handling marks. The forearm checkering is worn with the grip area checkering remaining crisp overall. There is a minor crack on the buttplate. Mechanically fine.
