Lot of Two (2) Pesh-kabz Knives, used in the Khyber Pass area between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Northern India: (1) The first is a smaller version with a 15'' bright steel blade, having a ''T'' shape with a curved base. Bolsters and backstrap are steel. The riveted grip panels are horn and decorated with silver pins. Wood sheath is covered with animal skin and has a wrapped lead sheath tip. OAL is 21''. Condition is good, the blade clean with a few edge nicks, and slightly blunted tip. Grip panels are four separate pieces that all fit together well and are in good condition. Sheath shows age and losses to the animal skin covering and minor cracking to the wood at the blade mouth opening. (2) The second knife is a much larger type with a 24'', ''T''-shaped blade, that has a few engraved circles near the base. Bolsters are brass, steel tang going through the grip. Riveted grip panels are horn and polished smooth. Scabbard is wood with an animal skin covering. OAL is 33''. Condition is good, the blade is mostly cleaned bright with some age graying and light pitting. There are a few small edge nicks and some areas showing the hand-forged layers of steel. Grip panels have some age cracking and minor losses on one side. Wood of scabbard is split and tied with metal wire, with some losses near the blade mouth opening. The animal skin covering has shrunk and wrinkled exposing about a quarter of the wood scabbard. Est.: $250-$450/lot.
