Lot of Two (2) Antique American Longarms: (1) Allen & Thurber Single-Shot Muzzleloading Percussion Rifle, NVSN, .40 cal., 30'' octagonal barrel with buckhorn style sights, marked ''Allen & Thurber Worcester'' on left angled flat, has slender steel forearm and two steel ferrules retaining the plain hickory ramrod; sidehammer receiver has loose floral engraving and scrolled trigger guard with rear finger-spur; varnished walnut buttstock has heavy ''Swiss'' style buttplate with toe scroll. Mfg'd ca. 1840s-60s, with browned barrel and case hardened receiver. Condition is very good, the metal showing a generally smooth brown patina with pitting at nipple, good engraving and markings. Stock with secure 4'' cracks emanating from both sides of frame, scattered marks and a later coat of varnish. Action functions; bore is clean showing overall light frosting and fine rifling. (2) Rare Civil War Frank Wesson Single Shot Breechloading Military Carbine, with Kittredge markings, #3746, .44 RF cal., 24'' octagonal tip-up barrel with dovetailed blade front and no rear sights, is marked ''F. Wesson's Patent/Oct. 25, 1859 & Nov. 11, 1862'' and ''B. Kittredge & Co./Cincinnati, O.'' on top flat; early one-piece forend and receiver with two triggers (front opens barrel, rear fires gun), center-hung hammer, fancy two-loop scrolled trigger guard with rear finger-rest is marked ''3748''; varnished walnut buttstock with flat brass buttplate. Mfg'd ca. 1859-63, in only 4,500 qty. Condition is good+, the barrel a smooth blue-brown having a vacant sling swivel dovetail midway, the balance of the metal brown with scattered light discoloration. Buttstock is a replacement (original had sling swivel and crescent style buttplate). Action functions; bore has overall frosting and good rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200/lot. (Antiques)
