Lot Includes one early M1880's infantry blanket bag with leather shoulder straps; one Infantry M1880 blanket bag with shoulder straps for dismounted use; and one Infantry M1890 US army Nutter Pattern blanket roll carrier. The Nutter Carrier organized the minimal load of blanket, canteen and one haversack in a single uniform configuration for efficient marching order, kept the load balanced and secure and allowed for the rapid dropping of the harness to free the soldiers to deploy into a skirmish line should the need suddenly arise. Stamping says Company I, 22nd Infantry Regiment, Soldier's Equipment No. 68.  The army marked equipment so if it was all thrown in a pile it could be sorted out fast if serving with other regiments or companies of soldiers. Sorted by Regiment and Company, once all the items were located in a Company pile, then it could be quickly sorted as soldier with Equipment no. 68 would then pick out any and all items with No. 68 out of the Company I pile of equipment. While this model 1880 blanket bag, this is a late period 1890's which has the US stenciling which has a thinner profile to the stenciling on the flap. The early 1880's blanket bag has a stenciling where the letters of the US its fat and even size all through the letters.   **Set shows wear with some fading, soiling, and light cracking to some of the leather straps. Leather is still pliable and straps are all still present and unbroken, and the markings on both bags are still legible, one more than the other. Overall the set is in excellent condition** $400-$600
