Frank Frayne's Tragedy
Frank I. Frayne (1836-1891), performed shooting stunts on stage for over twenty years before that fateful Thanksgiving Day in 1882. The Frank Frayne Combination played a matinee performance to a sold-out house at the Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio. The play was "Si Slocum," which had been written in 1875 for Frank to stage shooting stunts within a dramatic narrative. It was the fourth act, and his trick shooting assistant was his 18 year-old fiance, Annie Von Behren. Frank accidentally shot Annie in the forehead, killing her instantly in front of the full house. He lived in misery for another year before committing suicide.
