Lot of Five Signatures of Scientific Interest, including: Arthur Koehler (1885 - 1967) a U.S. federal expert who was important in the investigation of the Lindbergh kidnapping. In the trial of Bruno Hauptmann, Koehler brought out his evidence which helped to indict Hauptmann of the kidnapping and sent Hauptmann to the electric chair. After it was discovered that plank had disappeared from Hauptmann's attic, Koehler brought out his evidence: the wood he traced to Hauptmann. He proved, by fitting the two pieces together, that the attic board matched with the ladder rail used by the kidnapper, giving evidence that Hauptmann built the ladder. His evidence brought to the jury's decision to execute Bruno Hauptmann; Ira Sprague Bowen (1898-1973) was an American astronomer. A graduate of Oberlin College and the California Institute of Technology, he taught physics at CalTech from 1921 to 1945. He served as director of both the Mount Wilson Observatory and the Palomar Observatory, holding the latter position until 1964. In 1927 he discovered that Nebulium was not really a chemical element; Florence Rena Sabin (1871-1953) an American medical scientist. She was a pioneer for women in science; she was the first woman to hold a full professorship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, the first woman elected to the National Academy of Sciences, and the first woman to head a department at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research. In her retirement years, she pursued a second career as a public health activist in Colorado; Joseph Lynch (1894-1987) director of the Seismographic Station of Fordham University; and, Clyde L. Deming (1885-1969) urologist at the Yale University Medical School. All on cards, mounted on stiff card stock with a brief biographical sketch. All very fine.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
