Lot of Five Military Swords and Sabers
The lot consists of: 1) Eagle head officer's sword, 30 1/2" straight single fuller blade with etched decorations, gilt finished hilt, handguard engraved in the pattern of a bird wing, with gem inserts in the eagle head pommel and a wire wrapped wood grip. With a black leather scabbard with gilt tip, suspension band and tip. 2) Officer's dress sword with 33-1/2" straight, single fuller blade with a niter blue finish and gold accented engraving on the lower quarter. The gold plated brass counter guard has relief Tojan War scene decorations and the sword has ribbed pearl grips. The sword lacks a scabbard. 3) Spanish basket hilt artillery saber with 35-3/8" single fuller blade with "29518" and "J.T." on the left ricasso and Toledo mark on the right. The saber has a black painted sheet metal guard decorated with an improvised crossed pennant and sword design and checkered grip. With a metal scabbard. 4) Middle Eastern Military saber with a 31-1/2" single fuller blade. The saber has Arabic markings on the ricasso, sheath and brass hilt. Ribbed wood grip, black painted metal scabbard. 5) French Chatellerault Pattern 1829 Mounted Gunner Military Saber. The 33" curved single fuller blade is dated 1836 on the spine. The saber has a brass hilt, leather wrapped grip and an iron scabbard.

1) Very good, with light flaking of the blade and gilt finish. Guard shows a crack with the bottom loose from the hilt. Some scuffs and tears on the sheath. 2) Good, with some spotting on the blade, 40% of the original niter blue and some mild scratches on the grips. 3) Very good, bright blade, minor wear on the hilt and a bend and crack in the sheath. 4) Fine, with a brown patina on the blade, chipped grip and a visible weld on the sheath. 5) Blade is excellent with light spotting and a few small areas of pitting. Brass shows a mixed patina. Grip is missing the wire wrap. The scabbard is fair.
