<B>Lot of Civil Wars Autograph Letters With Naval Content</B></I>. Including two letters from Frederic Sherman, a powderman aboard the U. S. steamer <I>Morse</B></I>. In a two page letter to his father dated August 17, 1862 Sherman writes in part: “<I>…went down the river to care sic the male sic and we wear sic afraid that the Rebbles sic would fire on us they have four or five times…they his boat are going to attack Fort Darling and then on to Richmond…The boat I am on is going with others to fight, the sooner the better…</B></I>”. In another letter to his mother, three pages, dated February 5, 1863 and written while the <I>Morse</B></I> was in the Navy Yard for repairs, Sherman writes: “<I>I suppose you know that I am nineteen years old. You did not say anything about it in your letter. I suppose you forget it…</B></I>”. The remaining letter, one page, dated February 14, 1865, written by Lt. Commander E. W. Henry, skipper of the USS Nepsic, to Benjamin Dyer, commander of the USS <I>Hume</B></I>, reads in part: “I have learnt by one of my men who was captured on the picket boat at Charleston on the night of the 30th of Dec. 64 that, all his effects are on board the <I>Hume</B></I>, so are those of the other men belonging to this ship-Will you be good enough to send them to this vessel by the first reliable opportunity. This man just escaped from Florence & his name is John Conolly…”. All letters are slightly toned and have the usual fold creases, else very good. <I>Ex. Henry E.
