Lot of Three (3) Sealed Boxes of Antique Ammo: (1) Unusual .45-80 Sharpshooter cartridges, by Frankford Arsenal, containing a 2.4'' cartridge case holding 80 grs. of black powder. Developed in the late 1870s as a long-range accuracy caliber for the Springfield Rifle. Never really accepted by the U.S. Army, it was dropped by 1884. This rare box, dated Sept. 7, 1882, is clean and sealed with its string-pull intact. (2) Morse patent cartridges, ca. 1886-1887. A two-piece, removable head, tinned brass shell which was made (essentially as a trial run) by the Frankford Arsenal. This box is dated ''Mar 2 1887'', and is sealed, with its original string-pull intact. Another great U.S. military display item from the 1880s. (3) .50-70 Gov't Cartridges, by Frankford Arsenal, thought to be ca. early 1880s, with ''Sep 12'' date stamp but no year in evidence. Also stamped on top: ''Initial Velocity 1260 Feet''. A sealed box with string-pull intact. Hard to find in this condition. Est.: $800-$1,200/lot.
