Lot of 2 19th Century Indoor Target Pistols
Auction Location:

16600 Aston Street
Irvine, CA
Lot of Two (2) 19th Century Indoor Target Pistols: (1) Unmarked key-cocked single shot air pistol, .25 cal. smoothbore, 6-3/4'' blue octagonal tip-up barrel, adjustable rear sight, tulip-earred pin-post front sight, nickel air cylinder, triggerguard, and hardware; fluted European walnut stock. Action is very similar to known New York City mfg'd gallery guns by David Lurch. A simple crank is inserted in a port on the right side of the frame where a rack and pinion-type device is cranked to the rear, loading two volute springs butted against each other in tandem, thus locking the air cylinder in the open position. This method creates a powerful stroke in a very short space. Condition is about fine with light scuffs to nickel, minor toning to barrel, scuffs and impressions to pistol grip and forend. Missing a decorative escutcheon to right side of grip. Crank is no longer present. (2) Belgian tip-up single shot parlor pistol, unmarked, 4mm, 11'' octagon barrel, blue finish, Flobert style fluted walnut grip, with underlever unlocking device and sliding extractor. Condition is very good retaining approx. 85% thinning and toning finish. Stock with light wear. Action is crisp, bore is fair. Est.: $600-$800/lot. (Antique)
