March may have come in like a lamb, but it looks as if it’s the lion that’s going out with the Harper’s in-paw. Now that’s survival of the fittest, baby! Finding any of the 1894 series is very difficult today–and this image has become one of the rarest in this set. Already in 1896, it was difficult to locate them: In the catalogue of Smith & McCane, the Boston print dealer, the 1894 Harper’s sold for 75 cents each, those of 1895 at 10 to 25 cents apiece.
