Affiches Etrangeres remarks that in this poster "we meet the ordinary people who must earlier have passed under Mr. Steinlen’s window and have since emigrated” (p. 155). The stories of life among the New York masses included such chapters as "The Lineman’s Wedding,” "A Day at the Pinochle Club” and "Dutch Kitty’s White Slippers.” Just plain folks.
